Maggie Wingenfeld joined Open Doors Academy as its Community Engagement Manager in October 2016. Her position includes serving as the Open Doors Academy liaison to the community, actively seeking out relationships with the goal of engaging community organizations as partners in ODA programming, recruiting, training and developing community volunteers, and coordination of special programming events.
Maggie grew up in Louisville, Kentucky where she graduated from Ballard High School in 2007. She then moved to Columbus, Ohio to pursue her academic and professional goals. There, she earned a B.S. in Human Development and Family Science and a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Ohio State University.
Maggie’s passion for community engagement and volunteer management was gained by a unique experience as a Trip Leader for Bike & Build, Inc., a service-oriented, cross country cycling non-profit whose mission is to raise funding and awareness for the affordable housing cause. She co-led a team of 27 volunteers on a 3-month cycling trip from Maine to California. She handled the training and logistics for getting her team to each city to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for a day. Previously, Maggie worked for the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association for 3 years as an Associate. There, she became skilled in communication, problem solving, and data management.
In her free time, Maggie enjoys cycling and hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, spending time with family and friends, exploring Cleveland, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
