Born and raised just a few blocks from the Open Doors Academy’s administrative offices, Simon Cheung has lived in Northeast Ohio most of his life. As a writer perpetually in search of voice and stories, he is privileged to join the Development Team at ODA and to be able to tell the stories of the students involved in the middle school and high school programs. Simon graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts, focusing on creative writing. He earned a Master of Public Administration from Cleveland State University. He has written grant proposals professionally for Collaboration Station and as a volunteer for Recovery Resources and has devoted time as a volunteer for the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Foodbank, and the Cleveland International Film Festival. Simon has also worked in telemarketing, which managed to be both stressful and effortless (compared to writing grants).
In his spare time, he writes short stories and poetry, reads contemporary and classic literature, roots for all three professional sports teams from Cleveland, and watches independent films (with the occasional blockbuster, if dragged by friends).
