Meet Ali’Asia Allen, a bright and energetic middle schooler at Lima North Middle School who lights up every room she enters with her infectious smile and unshakable confidence. Ali’Asia is blind, but that hasn’t stopped her from fully embracing every opportunity Open Doors Academy offers.
At ODA, Ali’Asia has found a community that supports her, celebrates her, and empowers her to thrive.
Ali’Asia told us her program coordinators and classmates make sure she’s included in every activity, from arts and crafts to playing sports like softball and flag football. “They never leave me out,” she says with a grin. “They always make sure I’m part of the fun.”
Ali’Asia’s program coordinators describe her as an inspiration. “Her positive attitude is contagious,” shares one coordinator. “She leads by example, showing us all what it means to face challenges with courage and grace.”
Ali’Asia’s joy is undeniable when she talks about ODA. Her favorite moments are when she’s laughing and learning alongside her friends. Whether she’s cheering on her teammates during a game or sharing her ideas during a group project, Ali’Asia embodies the spirit of inclusion and belonging that defines the ODA community.
“This is the time of day I get to be the most free to be myself,” she says. “ODA is a place where I feel loved and accepted just the way I am.”
We’re excited to see how Ali’Asia will thrive in 2025!
