Meet Amora Baldridge, ODA 5th Grade Scholar at Breakthrough Southeast Campus

Amora aspires to become a teacher, driven by her passion for helping her friends succeed. “I want to go to a really good college so I can be a great teacher,” she shared. She envisions teaching sixth grade, believing it’s a crucial time to help students build a strong academic foundation as they transition into middle school.

Her curiosity was sparked during ODA’s Black History Month curriculum in February, when scholars created their own versions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The activity prompted Amora to reflect on her own future, leading her to think deeply about the kind of teacher she wants to be, the subjects she hopes to teach, and the impact she wants to make.

Her Campus Coordinator, Tonya Taylor, was especially impressed by Amora’s thoughtful approach. “She really took this activity to heart and thought deeply about her future,” Tonya shared. “That’s exactly what we hope for with these lessons – to encourage scholars to dream big and believe in themselves. I am so proud of Amora for embracing it in such a meaningful way.”

Beyond her passion for education, Amora enjoys learning in all forms. Her favorite subject is math, a topic she finds both fun and engaging. “Math is easier, and it has a lot of different things to learn,” she explained. She also loves exploring new topics and participating in hands-on activities that challenge her to grow. “My favorite part of ODA is when Miss. Tonya gives nice things and teaches us about new subjects,” she said.

Amora’s ambition, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm for learning inspire us all. We can’t wait to see the incredible things she will achieve!
