In September, we welcomed members of American Automobile Association (AAA) back to our offices for a discussion on the importance of advocacy in our work and personal lives.
Members of Escalera (AAA’s Latino-Hispanic Business Resource Group) and Lift Every Voice (AAA’s Black and African American Business Resource Group) joined other AAA leaders and ODA staff to share stories on why having somewhere safe and enriching to go after school is so important.
“It is a great pleasure to be able to serve the community, especially our youth. To be able to do it by partnering with ODA is even more incredible given the fact that I know the organization does such a great job at supporting the youth in need,” said Minerva Cabrera Pierce, a member of the Escalera group. “I love being part of Escalera because it is so diverse and so involved in trying to make changes in the community.”
Our partnership with AAA, which has only strengthened since the pandemic, has involved reading groups with elementary scholars, interview practice and career panel discussions with high school scholars, moving us in and out of summer camp, and for the second year, serving as the presenting sponsor at our Annual Benefit Clambake.
This partnership between ODA and AAA shows how advocacy and corporate support can create long-term community impact. Partnerships like these drive ODA forward so we can continue creating opportunities for students to thrive, both academically and personally.
