For Robertha Semple, Open Doors Academy has been life-changing. As the mother of Robert, an 8th-grader, and Carter, a 1st-grader, both enrolled in Breakthrough Public Schools’ Cliffs Campus, Robertha shared her story at this year’s Annual Benefit Clambake.
“I needed a place where my kids could feel secure and be themselves, and ODA has given us that – right there at their own school,” Robertha said. “That was most important to me. I didn’t want just a ‘daycare.’ I wanted an enriching experience for them.”
Robertha spoke about how ODA provides more than academic support – it offers peace of mind for working parents like her, who depend on a program that prioritizes the holistic growth of their children. “For me, it’s not just about academics; it’s about knowing my kids are thriving in a safe, supportive environment.”
From the stage, she expressed her gratitude to the donors who make these programs possible. “This program has been such a blessing in our lives. Thank you for believing in families like mine and for supporting a program that has given us so much.”
Robertha’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when families, schools, and community members come together.
