Parker Brown is a charismatic 11-year-old 5th grader at Breakthrough Public Schools’ Cliffs Campus and a proud Open Doors Academy scholar. An eager participant in ODA’s afterschool and summer programs for the past four years, she’s passionate about learning and exploring new opportunities.
“I love Stride and math! ODA makes learning fun, and I always look forward to being with my friends after school,” Parker shares. Stride is an interactive math and English skills platform that ODA uses which has become a favorite for Parker. This program adapts to each scholar’s skill level, keeping them challenged and helping them master crucial academic content. Parker especially enjoys exchanging the “Stride Coins” she earns for ODA apparel or special activities, which “makes learning even more fun!”
Parker’s enthusiasm extends beyond academics. She’s often seen encouraging her peers and collaborating on projects. Her admiration for Ms. Aziza, her ODA mentor, highlights the supportive environment she cherishes. “Ms. Aziza is really understanding and always helps all the scholars, including me,” Parker says.
A budding entrepreneur, Parker has participated in ODA’s Entrepreneur Showcase for the past two years, where she pitched business and product ideas to judges and fellow scholars. This experience helped build her confidence, which was on full display when she emceed ODA’s 2024 Annual Benefit Clambake in October.
Parker’s story is just beginning. Her drive to learn, love of collaboration, and growing confidence promise a bright future ahead. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next and are proud to be part of her journey.
