Before dawn on March 31, 38 high school scholars arrived at the ODA office buzzing with excitement and ready for our first international college tour since the pandemic.
Each year, ODA’s high school team organizes a multi-day college visit designed to expand scholars’ perspectives and provide opportunities to explore college life.
After a campus stop at the University at Buffalo, the group crossed into Ontario for a whirlwind of exploration and connection: Niagara Falls, the SkyWheel, and the Upside Down House. At Niagara College, scholars discovered hands-on, trade-focused programs.
“It helped me see that I can go elsewhere to learn my trade,” said Danasha, a junior from Euclid.
In Toronto, visits to York University and the University of Toronto offered a glimpse into vibrant student life, global perspectives, and inspiring architecture. Scholars returned energized – not just by what they saw, but by what they now imagine for themselves.
“This trip has changed my mindset about college. I actually want to go now,” said freshman Alejandro Padres.
Thanks to a strong community of support, our scholars are able to seize opportunities to explore, grow, and lead with confidence.
