What would you do with $2,000 a month – and no room for mistakes?
That’s the challenge our high school scholars tackled during a series of recent financial literacy workshops with Bank of America. In a hands-on simulation, scholars were given take-home incomes and faced real-life choices around housing, transportation, food, and savings.
“Better Money Habits is a great program that gets the scholars thinking about real-life examples of budgeting. This exposure equips them for scenarios they’ll be facing and prepares them to make financially sound decisions.”
- Karmen Harrison, ODA Board Member & Bank of America Relationship Manager, Global Commercial Banking.
Each scholar received a take-home income and was tasked with managing their finances, considering questions like:
“Do I really need a car right now?”
“If I skip eating out, can I build an emergency fund faster?”
The session covered topics like interest rates, credit cards, investing, and the importance of multiple income streams, giving scholars practical insights into how financial choices impact their futures.
“The lady from Bank of America was super nice, and the activities were actually fun. I had no idea a new car cost that much!”
- Eboni Ramos, 9thGrade ODAScholar at Max S. Hayes
Our partnership with Bank of America empowers our scholars to build practical skills and gain confidence in their financial futures. Thank you to Bank of America for helping us provide this valuable learning experience!
