What does it take to thrive in a high-pressure operating room or help patients recover? High school scholars found out from Van, Kate, Sasha, and Michaela, four hero MetroHealth nurses.
Scholars practiced CPR, learned how to use basic surgical tools, and saw how an ultrasound machine works under the nurses’ guidance. Our high schoolers asked about required qualifications, learned about the wide variety of nursing careers, and how our guests managed stress and mental health.
Thanks to our collaboration with Y.O.U. Cleveland, scholars had a close-up look at the nursing field and left with information to guide their career choices.
Several summer scholars pondered, “Do I want to work hands-on with patients, or do I prefer to be behind the scenes supporting care?” but convinced healthcare was for them.
Our MetroHealth friends offered a glimpse into what it’s like to be a nurse, the educational background and experience needed to succeed and the different avenues offered within the healthcare system.
