This past December, Open Doors Academy was honored to receive the 2025 Isaiah Award for Human Relations from the American Jewish Committee (AJC) of Cleveland.
For more than 55 years, AJC Cleveland's Isaiah Award has recognized organizations that build bridges across communities – work we see come to life every day in our afterschool programs during the school year and in our summer camps.
Patty Rubin, Isaiah Award committee co-chair, shared that Open Doors Academy represents “community building at its best,” pointing to the relationships formed across families, schools, and neighborhoods.
During her remarks, our CEO Dorothy Moulthrop reminded us, “Every child should have a place to go after school where they’re safe, supported, and seen for who they can become.”
We were honored to attend the ceremony alongside the other finalists: Cleveland Housing Network, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, Esperanza, Inc., Food Strong, Global Cleveland, Senior Transportation Connection, Shoes & Clothes for Kids, and Two Foundation. We are also honored to join the list of previous winners, including the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Towards Employment, The Music Settlement, Neighborhood Family Practice, and Saint Martin de Porres High School.
