Kanisha King was on the clock.
Facing career-based questions in a fast-paced Quiz Bowl, the Cleveland Heights High School junior had to think quickly, respond clearly, and trust what she had learned.
In March, scholars from across Northeast Ohio gathered at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland for the Career Olympics, hosted by Youth Opportunities Unlimited. The event brought together high school students to compete in challenges focused on financial literacy, public speaking, and other workforce-ready skills developed throughout the year.
The competition moved quickly. Scholars worked in teams, answered under pressure, and relied on clear communication and quick thinking.
Kanisha rose to the challenge, earning 3rd place in the Quiz Bowl contest.
“I learned that there’s actually discrimination within job fields,” she shared. “I also learned just how important it is to be punctual… completing tasks and showing up to places on time is crucial.”
Experiences like the Youth Career Olympics give scholars the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in real time, helping them better understand both the expectations and realities of the working world.
Congratulations, Kanisha!
