At this year’s Euclid Middle School End-of-Year Showcase, parent Renea Martin was recognized with the PINC Award, given by the program staff to an ODA family member who embodies what it means to Protect, Inspire, Nurture, and Challenge within their community.

For Renea, the recognition reflects a season when Open Doors Academy became a steady source of support for her family during a time of housing instability and transition.

“ODA made me feel like family,” Renea shared. “We were so boxed in because we didn’t have anybody. But they helped me become more open.”

What began with uncertainty grew into something much deeper. Through ODA, Renea built relationships with staff and families and found a place where her voice was welcomed and valued. As a member of the Family Advisory Council, she stepped into leadership and formed connections that continue to support her today.

That sense of belonging was felt equally by her daughter, Kaniyah. Renea shared that Kaniyah’s experience at ODA helped her try new things, build confidence, and stay engaged through both ODA’s afterschool programming and the school’s volleyball program. What once felt unfamiliar is now something Kaniyah looks forward to and talks about at home every day.

Today, ODA is part of their family’s daily conversations and relationships.

“Honestly, I don’t know where we’d be without ODA,” Renea shared.

Renea’s story reflects the kind of connection ODA works to build with families — relationships grounded in trust, support, and community.
