For Tyre, a rising fourth-grade scholar, summer camp at Open Doors Academy has been all about trying new things, making friends, and, most importantly, having fun.
Q: Is this your first year at ODA summer camp?
Tyre: “My first day.”
As a new scholar, Tyre quickly jumped into camp activities and found his rhythm.
Q: What has been your favorite part so far?
Tyre: “Gym.”
From basketball to football to a game called silent ball, Tyre enjoys staying active. Silent ball, he explains, challenges scholars to communicate without speaking while passing a ball—adding a creative twist to teamwork.
Q: What have you learned at camp?
Tyre: “Earthquakes.”
Through hands-on learning and videos, scholars explored how earthquakes impact the ground and structures, connecting curiosity with real-world concepts.
Q: Have you made any friends?
Tyre: “Ten.”
Building friendships has been a big part of Tyre’s experience, helping him feel comfortable and connected in a new environment.
Q: What do you like about ODA?
Tyre: “It’s good.”
Tyre also gave a thumbs up to the food—especially the salad—and says he enjoys eating “healthy food.”
As he looks ahead, Tyre keeps his goals simple: “Have fun… and do everything else.” At ODA summer camp, that’s exactly what scholars are encouraged to do—explore, learn, and grow along the way.
